NBK hosts EMBA seminar

KUWAIT: The National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) hosted the American University of Beirut (AUB) seminar on the Executive Masters of Business Administration (EMBA) Program on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2010 at the NBK head office. During the seminar Dr. Riad Dimechkie Director, Executive MBA Program, AUB gave a lecture about the process of decision making and a brief about the E-MBA Program at the American University of Beirut.
Dimechkhie highlighted some facts related to decision making such us uncertainty of decision making, complexity, high-risk consequences, human physiology and other alternatives.

Dimechkhie said that, hiring decisions are pretty interesting because usually people think that they are good at hiring and suddenly they discover that they were wrong noting that it is costly to invest in an employee.

He went on to say, "According to some research, we tend to hire people that look like us, or remind us of memories. We also tend to make decisions quickly without re-thinking our decision."

Dimechkhie clarified that if we make a wrong decision we tend to hold external factors responsible to justify our mistake; we don't blame ourselves. He added that he believes that decision making is the core of management.
"The program is rigorous and caters to the executive needs of the region," said Program Director Riad Dimechkie. "We graduate more effective executives by enabling them to identify issues inside and outside the company. We teach analytical techniques and organizational skills to solve complex business problems we also help executives develop strategies, apply resources effectively, and build organizational capabilities. Furthermore, we develop business insight and self-confidence in our graduates," he added.

AUB maintains its position as the regional leader in teaching effective management concepts with direct relevance to the needs of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) executives and their organizations by ensuring that graduates make a significant impact on their organizations and their communities. This program builds leadership skills through 'actionable knowledge'. The emphasis is on applying lessons learned in the work place, and on providing the underlying conceptual framework for effective decision making.
Speaking about The EMBA program he said that it is structured to accommodate the busy schedule of its student-executives. Over a period 20 months, students attend a weekend session held every three weeks.

Students joining the program are taught by more than 20 distinguished faculty members. They also get the chance to interact with prominent world businessmen and chief executive officers (CEOs) such as Carlos Ghosn (Renault/Nissan), Fadi Ghandour (ARAMEX), and Ibrahim Dabdoub (NBK) through EMBA's lecture series.
